Iceland: Djúpalónsandur, my all-time favourite beach
When people ask me: “What should I definitely see in Iceland?”, my answer is Djúpalónsandur. This is my favourite beach in the world. I must admit I am slightly prejudiced maybe, because I have a husband who has got style.
Picture this: the two of us are walking on Djúpalónsandur, my favourite beach in the Land of the Nice in the Snaefellsnesarea. Black little stones, cool lava sculptures, wild sea … He takes me to the side, says ‘You know I love you …’, goes down on his knee and proposes. On my favourite beach in Iceland. That’s the guy I must marry! He even conjured up a ring. I had never expected that to be honest!
Djúpalónssandur already was my favourite beach. I fell in love with it back in 2002, when I was studying in Iceland. Waves crashing on the black lava beach in a dramatic jagged landscape. Moreover, this part of Iceland is a less touristy part. When we were there, we were the only foreigners. All the other tourists were Icelandic.
